Mirrors and Souls

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

I see a whole new world. When life gets in the way and pain blurs your sight, I see the enormous potential I hold in my words. And the way they soothe troubled souls.

Souls are such peculiar gifts — a luxury and a curse; but really, I wouldn’t know. I never see it in the mirror. I like to believe I have one or many, as you often say. At the end of the day, I’m really just a story, words strung together to paint a picture or, nurture someone else’s soul.

I enjoy thinking about things that aren’t quite confined to the words I hold. I know my story, very well indeed — a particular depth and clarity you only gain from reading yourself every second of every day. My days sometimes span hours or months or even just a few minutes — I watch the words I’ve been lent find new meanings, new avenues and new worlds of their own.

And it’s got a certain charm to it; finding your thoughts and beliefs are no longer solitary in their existence. The mirror doesn’t tell me who it sees, it tells me what it sees. And I know what I am — I know all of it; how my spine glows in the sun, the way I reflect moonlight and souls or how I shudder on stormy nights. But that isn’t what I see when I look in your eyes.

I see adventure and sorrow, love and heartbreak, thrill and grief and I live for all of it. That singular moment of uncontrolled, unadulterated humanity.

I live the same story over and over but you get to write one everyday. Have you ever considered that the lack of clarity that looms over your lives might be your luxury and curse?

Well, dear reader — what do you know? I see a whole world in you too, but one with a soul so bright it breathes life into my words.

So, I ask again and let the mirror be honest — what do you see when you look in the mirror?

Much love and soul,
That book you always turn to
